Rutland Water on 31st March 2013

Normanton Church seen from the banks of Rutland Water on 31st March 2013. When the Gwash valley was flooded in the 1970s to create this vast reserve of water, the church was threatended with destruction until a group of presevationists stepped in to save it. Having filled the lower parts of the floor with concrete, the outer wall was encased in clay and a stone breakwater to protect it from the rising waters.
