34046 at Irwell Vale on 20th January 2013

Rebuilt Bulleid Light Pacific No. 34046 "Braunton" arrives at Irwell Vale whilst working the 1J59 10:00 Heywood to Rawtenstall service on 20th January 2013. Withdrawn from British Rail service in 1965, "Braunton" spent more than 20 years rusting away in Dai Woodham's infamous scrapyard in Barry, South Wales. In 1988 the locomotive was purchased for preservation, but it wasn't until 1996 that full restoration began. "Braunton" steamed again in 2007 and the past few years has seen the locomotive run in at the West Somerset Railway. It recently moved to the East Lancs Railway to be prepared for a second career on the mainline, and was available to take part here in the Winter Steam Gala.
