47826 at Glossop on 10th May 2009

Class 47/8 No. 47826 leads the 1Z85 09:16 Glossop to Wembley Central away from the Pennine terminus on 10th May 2009. This special train, operated by West Coast Railways, was taking some 700 supporters of Glossop North End Football Club to Wembley for the final of the FA Vase tournament. With the club's Surrey Street ground visible at the foot of the town's infamous chimney, several onlookers watch as the train heads towards Dinting. All is not well however as the 47 had failed and the train was being pushed from the rear by Class 57/3 No. 57308 "TIN TIN" which had earlier worked the empty coaching stock to Glossop after the loco on the other end of train, Class 47/7 No. 47786 "Roy Castle OBE", had also failed.
