58001 at Doncaster Works on 27th July 2003

Class 58 No. 58001 on display at the Doncaster Works 150th celebration event on 27th July 2003. Another pioneer loco on display at the event, 58001 was the first of 50 such locomotives built by BREL at Doncaster works for use on heavy freight trains. With a relatively short career of just 17 years, 58001 was withdrawn in 1999. It was reapinted in its original Railfreight Red Stripe livery in 2003 and attended several open days before being returned to operational condition in 2009 and exported to France for use by ETF.
